Aldub Kalyeserye is a soap opera parody aired live within the "Juan for All, All for Juan" segment of the Filipino noontime variety show Eat Bulaga! on GMA Network in the Philippines and worldwide through GMA Pinoy TV. The mini-show, as it has evolved, focuses on AlDub, the fictional couple pairing — or "love team" as it is more commonly known in the Philippines — of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza's "Yaya Dub" character in which the two only communicate through lip-syncing to various pop songs and movie audio clips as well as written messages, and interact only on the show's split-screen frame. Richards is usually based in Broadway Centrum studio of Eat Bulaga! in Quezon City while Mendoza travels around to a different barangay (village).

With an initial runtime of a few minutes, the show soon expanded to over a half-hour for each episode, with specials running even longer and for more segments. Current runtimes are about 55 minutes on weekdays to about 75 minutes on the Saturdays. The show features live improvisation from Richards, Mendoza, Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo and Paolo Ballesteros who all play various roles while the other hosts of Eat Bulaga! located in the studio serve as live commentators (usually a live "panel" consisting of 3-4 Eat Bulaga! hosts) that interact with the characters and also the audiences. Kalyeserye has elements of comedy-drama, parody, romantic comedy and reality television. According to Anna Leah Sarabia, a Filipino anthropologist, the segment uses fairy tale and soap opera tropes. The term "Kalyeserye" is a play on the Filipino word teleserye (television series) and is a portmanteau of the Tagalog words kalye (street) and serye (series). It was coined by Joey de Leon, one of the primary hosts of Eat Bulaga!, to refer to the location outside the studio which is usually shot out on the streets of Metro Manila or in the provinces of the Philippines that serve as the remote setting of the parody segment.

FPJ's Ang Probinsyano (Lit: The Man from the Province or The Provincial Man) is a 2015 Philippine action drama television series based on the 1997 Fernando Poe, Jr. film of the same title, courtesy of FPJ Productions. Directed by Malu Sevilla, Avel Sunpongco and Toto Natividad, it is topbilled by Coco Martin, together with an ensemble cast. The series premiered on ABS-CBN and worldwide on The Filipino Channel on September 28, 2015, replacing Nathaniel.

ABS-CBN president and CEO, Charo Santos-Concio, touted the creation of a drama-action series which particularly aims to give importance to the police force in an effort to help them "regain the love and respect of the people”. Coco Martin, who would be later named as the series' lead actor, was involved in the production shoot for the series, who proposed that the production team create a television adaptation of Fernando Poe Jr.'s film Ang Probinsyano. Martin reasons that he and his grandmother enjoyed watching films of the action star while Martin grew up. The widow of Fernando Poe Jr., Susan Roces reportedly allowed the production team to adapt her former spouse's film.

The series directed by Avel Sunpongco and Malu Sevilla is not a remake of the 1997 film of the same name. Ang Probinsyano was made to be run for months and was made more suitable for teleserye viewers.

The title of the original film was inspired from the term "pulis patola" which is occasionally used to tease newbie police officers. Since patola, or cucumber of the luffa genus, is usually grown in the provinces outside urban areas such as Manila, the title Ang Probinsyano was decided to be the title of the 1997 film, which would be later adapted in a 2016 television series.
